As I sit in Costa, delving into a freshly reheated Moroccan Meatball wrap, followed up by what can only be described as some cross between chewing gum and a muffin (moistness has clearly been sacrificed to be able to add the prefix of 'skinny'), I listen to two high school friends on repeat. This is one of those strange moments when you wonder how things moved on from being children in a strange, middle of nowhere school, to having one of your oldest friends contact you saying that their new (brilliant) single has been released on iTunes.
Music isn't a topic I touch on often but considering the fact that this is actually one hell of a tune, and the fact that I am currently running a competition to win a high resolution Sony Walkman and a pair of Sony headphones (which this song would sound phenomenal on)... It seemed like all too perfect timing.
The song, Wire & Thorns, is by The Jake Morrell Band and I urge you to give it a listen. I'm not going to analyse the song for you - No giving away genre, tempo, theme, timbre or anything at all. All I will say is that I have been listening to this song on repeat for about half an hour now and I will gladly listen to it for another half an hour. That's incredibly rare.
"I promise it isn't awful" - Lewis Jenkins
Cheers guys,
