Fat, I find, is much like Donald Trump: It springs up rather suddenly, yet it is seemingly impossible to get rid of. This is particularly true of the fat that I created through four years in a relationship and four years at university. Virgin Active and the #MyWorkoutFor campaign come into play at this stage, helping me to create the #MyWorkoutFor Single Life workout and allowing me to realise just how unfit I am these days.
Virgin Active got into contact and asked if I wanted to create a workout with them, all based on my personal fitness goals. Quickly, I responded to say yes and that my aim is for fat burning and conditioning. I am not a fat man, I understand that, but I would like to lose a few pounds and get to a weight/size that I would personally be happier with.
Being 6ft2 and broad, I have little interest in bulking up, nor am I training for anything in particular, so working with Tyrone (above) and Luke – two Master Trainers at Virgin Active – a workout was developed to give a whole-body workout and to get into fat burn mode. And my God did it do just that.
The class took place in the Virgin Active Collection gym at 200 Aldersgate Street – a rather plush underground lair, fit for a bodybuilding Bond villain (seriously Eon, why hasn’t this happened yet?). Alongside me, there were a number of wonderful people who came along for the fun, and although it was an intense workout, by my standards at least, we all enjoyed it thoroughly. This is excusing a minor personal hiccup at the end that made me feel rather ill.
It is fairly difficult for me to explain the workout we actually did. Technical jargon of the personal training world is far from being my forte, and I feel that I honestly could not accurately describe the movements or even remember all of them. Luckily (and incredibly unluckily) for me, there is a video of the day and a page on the Virgin Active website dedicated to the workout. I would seriously recommend giving it a go; it is challenging, yes, but it is worth the pain without a doubt. The majority of the moves could be performed at home as well.
If you would like to try the workout, head over to the Virgin Active website to download the workout. Also, feel free to watch me struggle in the video below.
